Biography

"A bright, agile soprano [with] irresistible charisma," Cuban-American soprano Catherine Antonia Samartin is recognized for her expressive artistry and compelling stage presence. With a background in dance, modeling, and stage and film acting, she brings exceptional dramatic depth and physicality to both the operatic and concert stage.

Recent engagements include Musetta in La bohème with Opera Festival of Chicago, the title role in Donizetti's Anna Bolena, and Blanche de la Force in Dialogues of the Carmelites with Independent Opera Company. Her repertoire also includes Juliette (Roméo et Juliette), Gilda (Rigoletto), Countess Almaviva (Le nozze di Figaro), and Donna Anna(Don Giovanni), performed in both Berlin and Los Angeles.

On the concert stage, Ms. Samartin has appeared as soprano soloist in Mozart's Requiem, Bach's Magnificat, and Handel's Messiah, with additional performances of Dvořák's Stabat Mater and Shostakovich's Symphony No. 2.

A recipient of an Opera Buffs Career Grant, Ms. Samartin has been recognized in competitions including the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition and the Palm Springs Opera Guild Competition. In 2025, she was awarded the Career Grant Prize in the Finals of the Pasadena Vocal Competition.
